On Tuesday, we will meet in Room 424 to take roll and pass back papers. Then we will go to the library and take the end-of-year Star Reading assessment to see how much your reading has improved since August. Those who need AR points can take an AR test on To Kill a Mockingbird.
If there is time, students will log on to The College Board website https://www.collegeboard.org and create an account. From there, I will give you an access code that will allow you go to the My Road section of the website and take the ORA Personality Profiler. If I don't have an access code for you (because you did not take the PSAT), I have a paper version of the personality profile you can use.

Reflection on Fall Semester
After you have taken an AR quiz on a book you read during winter break, write a reflection on your progress as an English student.
First, take a few minutes to look through your portfolio. What types of writing do you enjoy? What types or elements or writing give you trouble? Do you need to work on generating ideas before you start writing or do you need to proofread more carefully and revise? Does your grammar or vocabulary need improvement?
In sentence form (not a list), name three things you are good at in English class and three things that you plan to improve on this semester. Turn this in when you are done, or finish for homework if necessary.

Words of Wisdom from Students
One thing I learned this semester is
One question I still have is
What helped me learn best is
- that you can learn everything and be acceptable if you are interested in your subject and pay attention. (Diana)
- to keep on improving my writing each time even if you have an A on your essay (anonymous).
- that Abraham Lincoln wrote short speeches and there are a lot of good authors out there (Dennis).
- writing an essay can be fun (Jacob).
- that short stories have more meaning than what they show. (Lesley)
- that I can get an A in English without feeling like I am a failure at everything I write (anonymous).
- new words to put in my vocabulary (Violet).
One question I still have is
- What are we reading next semester? (Kimberly)
- What's the next story we read going to be about? (Lazaro)
- What are we doing next semester? (Milagros, Michelle)
- How I managed to get through this semester? (Katherine)
- Will we be writing more autobiographical essays or was that the only one? (Maria)
What helped me learn best is
- by reading stories and then watching the film about it. This really helped me to visualize and picture the events of the story. For example, for my essay on the Odyssey I was able to do a better job because I saw the Cyclops and the settings which helped me to write a more interesting essay that could entertain the reader (Jennifer).
- working in groups and watching a movie of the story that we read in class (Jadine).
- the fact that after reading we would watch a movie (Victoria).
- going back and remembering the moments that are important in my life (Jaila).
- my parents reminding me to do my best (Noe).

The Odyssey Vocabulary
OK, we are going to get this right yet. I created a course on Memrise called The Odyssey, but I failed to make it public. Here is the link if you want to study and take a makeup exam on Tuesday at nutrition.
